Klavdija Krempl Slana SŠ – Assessing short compositions on the matura exam (article, letter/email, report)

This workshop will outline text type conventions of the following three matura exam texts: article, letter/email and report, specifically its layout, text organization and specific content. We will also look at sample writing tasks (from the previous years’ English matura exams) and discuss and assess some sample responses. 

OŠ Sandra Kozorog Košuta- Teaching languages through art, history and music? Why not?

A cross-curricular approach to language teaching, based on content and not so much on language can have surprising effects. Choosing a real event (ideally, meaningful for the students) in an English lesson and presenting it through history, music, art, home economics or any other school subject is not that difficult, yet it can produce fabulous results.

10.30 – 11.30 Ana Jereb  Planning your professional development to empower and inspire joy

Teachers’ professional development is typically organized, to various degrees, by our senior teacher or the DOS. Perhaps you are observed and then told what your action points are, and those are the workshops and seminars you try to attend. But what if your PD wasn’t focused on your deficits? In this workshop, we’re going to take a look at your personal experiences in the classroom that show you which strengths you can build on, opportunities to look for, and how to focus on activities that will help you grow from your own internal drive rather than an external imposition.

11.45 – 12.45 Lucija Kuntner  Play is the brain’s favourite way of learning

A creative workshop using the NTC method and theatre pedagogy that goes beyond the conventional teaching techniques. The topic of art and its three major categories are presented through subcategories using the NTC codes, hidden words, rhymes and associative technique, and thus increasing functional knowledge. Finally, the activities aim to stimulate participants both physically and cognitively.

14.00 – 14.45  Nataša Luković When the brain blocks, take a brain break!

Are your students sleepy on Monday mornings? Do they look at you with calm eyes, but you know their thoughts wandered away? Are they too nervous to focus, because they are writing a test in 20 minutes? Take a brain break and help them refocus. Short brain breaks can have many benefits and they are fun! They help students improve their attention, refresh their thinking process and boost their creativity. Moreover, they reduce stress, anxiety and frustration.

In this workshop, you will try out different types of brain breaks and get a hold of a bundle of written ideas to use in your next lesson.

15.00 – 15.45 Sandra Žeželj Beyond Chalk and Talk: The Importance of IT Tools for Enhanced Classroom engagement

The aim of the workshop is to empower primary and secondary school teachers with the digital skills needed to use various IT tools in the classroom. We will shed light on how to use QR codes for individualized learning; how to use Padlet for collaborative learning; how to use Mentimeter for formative assessment; how to use Prezi for dynamic graphic presentations of students’ work; and how to use ChatGPT as a personal assistant – for both teachers and students.

16.00 – 17.00 Aja Lovrec Google Docs, Maps and Forms in an ESL Classroom

The workshop is focused on using some of the Google Drive tools for teaching and acquiring different competences. Namely, students tend to be engaged in learning with digital devices (phones, laptops, tablets). When it comes to using a gadget, they are easily aware of making spelling and grammar mistakes because the tools underline the misspelled words. For instance, Google Docs can change the handwritten image (of a handwritten essay) to an online text. Furthermore, Google Maps can be used for teaching different skills – planning and organizing a trip, expressing creativity, and using technology responsibly. Also, Google Forms give immediate feedback to teachers on their students’ progress.

To sum up, you will get some ideas how Google Drive can assist you in the classroom.
